John Wayne is a very GA friendly airport considering amount of commercial and business jet traffic. ACI JET is really great and small piston airplane friendly. Atlantic is ok too. Signal Peak is used by controllers as VFR reference point.
Balboa Island is a great and beautiful place to go to (about 15 min car ride).
