The airport sits on a dry lake bed with a dirt runway. The surface is soft so be careful if not a bush plane. Ocotillo Wells State Vehicular Park is west of the airport with more than 85,000 acres of magnificent desert and open for off-highway exploration and recreation. There is an old hidden mine shafts and Divill's Slide (200ft granite hill).
